This half-day First Aid Refresher course is designed for individuals who have previously completed first aid training (such as Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work) and want to reinforce their skills, knowledge, and confidence.

While it is not a formal requalification course, this refresher is ideal for first aiders who wish to stay current with first aid best practices and updates, and to practise their response in key emergency scenarios. The course focuses on core life-saving skills, delivered through interactive demonstrations and hands-on practice using manikins and training equipment.

What You Will Learn

The Role of the First Aider

• Recap your responsibilities during an emergency
• Understand consent and maintaining safety
• Importance of quick and effective decision-making

Managing an Emergency

• Revisit the DR ABC assessment
• Safe scene management and when to call emergency services

Communication and Casualty Care

• Practise calm, clear communication
• Learn how to monitor, comfort, and reassure casualties

CPR & Defibrillation

• Perform adult CPR on a manikin
• Correct defibrillator (AED) pad placement
• Respond to AED voice prompts with confidence

Unresponsive Casualty

• Practise the safe application of the recovery position
• Monitor and manage breathing

Choking (Adult)

• Recognise signs of choking
• Perform back blows and abdominal thrusts

Bleeding (Minor & Severe)

• Revisit bandaging and pressure application
• Recognise signs of shock due to blood loss

First Aid Regulations & Updates

• Refresh your understanding of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations
• Learn about any recent updates to resuscitation guidelines or procedures
